Amazing Race is rightly regarded as the brilliant “all-rounder” of team building activities, simply because it works incredibly well for so many types of groups. Travel around and explore Melbourne CBD with your team.
The Amazing Race includes creative, mental and problem-solving tasks, the feedback we constantly hear is that the event is so enjoyable because it’s varied and balanced; lots of fun promote true collaboration and with just a hint of challenge and competition to make it motivating.
The starting point is in the Queen Victoria Gardens near the floral clock (opposite the NGV). Your Team will complete their first 2 challenges in the Gardens before heading to more challenges in buzzing Southgate, then crossing the footbridge with some challenges through the Laneways, via Hosier Lane and finally into Federation Square. It is a relatively flat course with some shade and cover and the overall distance is easy for a person of even average fitness.
We start by splitting your group into smaller teams of around 5-7 people. After the warm up games, groups leave the start in closely timed intervals. Each of the teams is briefed, then given a map and a clue to the first checkpoint. At 4 checkpoints there are either activity challenges or questions. Challenges are generally quite quirky and are ever so slightly outside most people’s comfort zones.
Nothing is too hard and along with your map, you will have a number to call to avoid anyone getting lost. On the final leg, teams complete the very popular “Photo Shoot” challenge. For this, your team will have a digital camera and a list of photos to compose and take. Different tasks will require teamwork, strategy, creativity, observation or problem solving and allow different team members to lead. It is a true team event, no one person can be good at all the activities, the best teams are those that allow the most people to shine.
This event will stimulate the team’s approach to planning, creativity, ingenuity, trust and teamwork in a single fun event that gets rave reviews from all types of teams.
Minimum and Maximum Time Required: Allow a minimum of 2.5 hours for the event from meeting time to the announcement of the winning team, with a large group things can slow down just a little. Fast teams usually arrive at the final checkpoint about 1 hour 40 minutes later and we allow about 30 minutes for all teams to come in. Whilst we can start virtually any time, we do need to finish before dark.
Minimum and Maximum Group Size: 10 is the minimum and 80 is the maximum that works well for this course.
