This yacht race series involves three short courses races designed to build communication and leadership skills, while at the same time rewarding colleagues for their efforts in the workplace.

What happens during the Sailing and Yacht Race team building activity

Your sailors will be divided into two teams before boarding our two sailing catamarans at Raby Bay (just near the Cleveland Train Station).
The two yachts used for the match racing are a 43 foot French built catamaran and a Lightweight 38” Forte catamaran. Our two certified skippers will provide our guests with a full safety briefing. As we depart the harbour your team will learn the techniques of sailing, navigation, safety and the need for effective communication between crew in a race environment. You will then be divided into teams of 4-7 and be given a half hour shift to race the respective catamarans around the short course.

Your teams will be working together to study the course, identify the navigation marks and at the same time sail the yacht at her optimum level in variable breezes. All team members are encouraged to participate and switch positions. Ultimately, each team’s performance will depend on effective team work and good communication. Our skipper and deckhand will oversee all teams in action ensuring the day is a safe and fun event.
Once docked back in the harbour, we’ll have an interactive session covering the learnings of the team racing including the effectiveness of team work, the clarity and conciseness of team communication, problems that may have arisen and trouble shooting, the benefits and effective team communication. The sailing yachts used are large and stable and we operate in protected waters, therefore, this event is safe and suitable for people of all levels of fitness.

Logistics

Groups from 30 -65 sailors.

Duration: 4hrs or 8hrs. A swim and lunch break form part of the full day trip.

Half day Includes: 2 sailing catamarans, Morning or Afternoon tea, 2 certified skippers & 2 deckhand, fuel and safety equipment.

Full day includes: 2 sailing catamarans, Morning/Afternoon tea, Lunch being a selection of cold meats/salads/rolls, 2 certified skippers & 2 deckhand, fuel and safety equipment.
